Hitomi Nishina models the heated Triumph bra. The bra can heat to the same level as domestic heaters.
A leading lingerie company has joined Japan's fight against high fuel use, unveiling a heated bra for winter. The fluffy creation contains special pads filled with an eco-friendly gel that can be easily heated in a microwave or with a hot water bottle. The design also includes a furry boa designed to double as a winter scarf. Lingerie giant Triumph unveiled the bra months after PM Junichiro Koizumi urged Japan's office workers to ditch ties to save on air conditioning. Being padded, the new bra packs a little more bulk than most regular designs, but the Japanese arm of Triumph insisted the look was more chic than sheep. "We hope this will not only help prevent global warming but also provide a little fashion chic to the office," the company said in a statement. The bra, which comes only in white, also features a pendant shaped like a chilli pepper dangling on its front. Environmental support The bra comes with matching shorts, but is not being offered for general sale. Instead the set is being viewed as a prototype product, the first step towards mass-producing eco-friendly clothing. Japan's government is encouraging people not to set their domestic heating higher than 20C this winter, to reduce fuel consumption and conserve energy stocks. During the summer, Mr Koizumi surprised Japan's traditionally well-dressed office workers by discarding his tie and urging his countrymen to do the same. The drive to reduce air-conditioning use and thus greenhouse gas emissions was estimated to have saved enough power to supply 240,000 homes for a month.

Of the many problems which a new project for milk collection and processing faces in a developing country, the most important are the shortage of the necessary capital and the difficulty in keeping all costs at a sufficiently low level. The specific costs of collection, transport and processing are usually abnormally high because supplies of milk are inadequate to utilize fully the installed machinery. Small quantities of milk delivered by individual producers, long distances between the production areas and the markets, bad road conditions and high ambient temperatures make the development of a dairy industry a particularly difficult task. Dairy development policies in such countries are most often based on foreign patterns. They include establishment of a number of collecting centres and processing plants whose basic feature is the technology prevailing in industrialized countries. That technology is marked by processing costs often too high for markets in developing countries and machinery often too complicated for locally available skills. The capacity of equipment normally available often greatly exceeds the quantity of milk which can be obtained, particularly in the early stages of development. In recent years new trends are becoming evident in applying technology to food processing in developing countries. This involves simple processes better adapted to the special needs of these markets. These ideas now need study and applied research, primarily by establishing pilot schemes in which feasible projects are tested. Consistent with these trends is the examination of the feasibility of using solar energy for small-scale operations.

Sustainability and Technical Systems in Buildings Case study: CII: Green Business Centre, Hyderabad, India Rajesh Gupte June 2005. Note: This article is meant for project managers, architects. Some Technical terms are therefore simplified for better understanding. Efforts have been made to make it interesting for HVAC Engineers as well. This article provides a brief overview about the Techno-commercial aspects of use of Wind towers in Green Business Centre, Hyderabad, India and a possible application of similar Technology for Modern Residential / commercial Buildings in Indian sub-continent 0.1 Brief Facts: • Green Business Centre, Hyderabad is recognized as a World’s Greenest Building and has a Platinum rating (version II) from LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental design, USGBC) • Wind towers at GBC fall under of Energy and Atmosphere saving / conservation systems of LEED rating. LEED rating system awards 27% importance to Energy and atmosphere. • Two Wind towers are a part of Air conditioning system of a 300 seat Auditorium at GBC (Green Business Centre, Hyderabad) • It is unique mix of ancient Indian Air cooling methods and Modern Air conditioning Technology. • This is an excellent use of Zero-energy Technique (or passive cooling) for Lowering the Fresh air temperature in Air conditioning system 0.2 Thermal comfort: Right click and save the pdf file from: here
